Winemaking Through The Generations
June 2021
In June, we celebrate the fathers in our lives. The dads that pass along their passion and their wisdom to the next generation. This month, we’re joining in that celebration by highlighting multi-generational wineries.
We’re featuring four different wineries where fathers (and grandfathers) have built family traditions and the next generation of winemakers, vineyard workers, and tasting room managers.
Our first red is a Pinot Noir from Guillén Family Wines, especially poignant as the final vintage produced by winemaker and owner Jesús Guillén before he unexpectedly passed away during the harvest of 2018. All of his wines were dedicated to his children and nieces and nephews. Our second red is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Watermill Winery, a family affair in Milton-Freewater with second generation winemaker Andrew Brown.
Our first white is a Sauvignon Blanc from Siltstone Wines produced by the Myers family. Joel Myers planted his vineyard and many others in the Valley starting in the 1960s and passed along his expertise to his sons and daughter-in-law who have taken over the operation in the past few years. Our second white is a Chardonnay from Lundeen Wines whose winemaker Michael is the third of four generations of Lundeens to care for their family vineyard.
